IT-Aided Fault Detection and Processing with ACOS NMS

For more than 100 years, Stadtwerke Weinheim (SWW) has provided the inhabitants of the Weinheim region in the south-west of Germany with electricity, gas, local heat and water. The ACOS NMS basic module and the asset and outage management modules were put into operation, thereby enabling the electronic acquisition, reporting and archiving of faults.

Outages and faults are reported to the central telephone switchboard and the central control room of Stadtwerke Weinheim. Here, all incoming reports or complaints are recorded, classified and passed on to the staff in charge or to the on-call service. After successful elimination of faults, all faults and their remedies have to be documented according to the legal provisions, and have to be classified for statistical purposes.

Objective
The purpose of installing a modern outage management system is to optimise the necessary measures to be taken in the event of faults.

Formerly, these processes used to be documented in paper form; however, this procedure is to be replaced by a completely computer-aided solution which enables the equipment-specific recording of faults and the quick and easy generation of annual outage and availability statistics at the touch of a button.
This means a significantly increased efficiency, both with regard to fault elimination and fault documentation.

ACOS NMS - System Concept
The ACOS NMS network management suite is a web-based solution with a modular structure. ACOS NMS provides support for the inventarisation of equipment and components, for fault management and for the planning and implementation of maintenance activities.

ACOS NMS enables the processing of faults from their recording to their final documentation. The resulting job orders are processed further by means of the order and workforce management module.

Both ACOS NMS and the powerful ORACLE database for data management run on a server platform owned by SWW. User access to the system is completely browser-supported and can be done via standard PCs in the office LAN.

In the second stage, ACOS NMS will take over the complete maintenance process and work preparation. Additionally, a shift log will be integrated where all relevant information on occurrences during a shift will be documented by the system, including a shift transfer report.
