SDADA System for Monitoring the Water Network of Harzwasserwerke GmbH

Harzwasserwerke GmbH ia a regional company in Lower Saxony that undertakes the supply of drinking water for ca. 1.5 million inhabitants of 70 towns and communities in North Germany. Dinking water is drawn from valley-dammed and groundwater reservoir and is distributed via a 500-km pipeline network.

For the monitoring of the pipeline system and water input to the waterworks, as well as in- and output of water into/from elevated reservoirs, Harzwasserwerke GmbH commissioned IDS with the installation of an IDS HIGH-LEIT SCADA system.lation of an IDS HIGH-LEIT SCADA system.

System Concept

The concept of the overall system reflects the current state-of-the-art. The transmission routes are equipped with PCM30 technology. The new telecontrol stations are equipped with IDS 850 telecontrol and automation technology; further RTUs from third-party suppliers are connected via TTY protocol.

The redundant IDS HIGH-LEIT SCADA system includes two front-end computers, two servers and two MMIs for each system. The front-end computers, servers and the operation and monitoring computers in the central control room are designed as separate modular components. The data from the central control room are transmitted to the office network via Web server.

Some of the 25 connected substations have a remote workstation where information that is relevant for the respective location can be visualised. Consequently, the system’s password control features had to be rather sophisticated, featuring multi-tenancy functions, in order to provide the appropriate information to the different operators.
