Delivery of an IDS HIGH-LEIT Control System with SCADA Functions and Gas Demand Forecast and Supply Optimisation

Stadtwerke Lehrte GmbH (Lehrte Municipal Utility) supplies approximately 48,000 inhabitants of Lehrte and its suburbs with an annual total of ca. 400 million kWh of natural gas. Furthermore, the company ensures the supply of ca. 23,000 inhabitants of the city centre with ca. 1.25 million m3 of drinking water and is also in charge of wastewater disposal.

Stadtwerke Lehrte have taken over three new gas transfer stations from EON-AVACON. These stations are being equipped with telecontrol systems; data transmission is done via GPRS. Two new systems for gas flow rate regulation in Sülterberg and on the town’s civic amenity site are connected via an SHDSL ring; other stations in the gas and water systems are connected via voice-frequency telegraphy.

Stadtwerke Lehrte’s old process control system is currently being replaced by an IDS HIGH-LEIT control system which also features SCADA functions for gas demand forecast and supply optimization. Through the integration of forecast data from the German meteorological service, it will be possible to make more accurate forecasts of the weather and, consequently, of the gas demand. Several workstations on the premises of Stadtwerke Lehrte and access via terminal server ensure a comfortable operation of the control system.

Stadtwerke Lehrte expect that this investment in IDS technology will lead to an improved supply quality as well as a homogenization of the gas supply and, consequently, a reduction of procurement costs.
