Network Management System for Multi-Utility Companies

Zwickauer Energieversorgung GmbH (ZEV) is a multi-utility company in Saxony/East Germany supplying 70,000 customers with energy, 22,000 households with natural gas and 28,000 households with district heating. Moreover, ZEV provides a wide range of services.
Since 1996, ZEV has installed a SCADA and telecontrol system from IDS which has seen several upgrades over the past years to conform to the latest state of the art. In May 2004, IDS received the order for the implementation of a comprehensive network management system. This system is designed to support the classic tasks in the fields of energy, natural gas and district heating and has interfaces to all technical IT applications, including SAP/R3.
The ACOS NMS network management system supports the typical network service processes and acts as a ”data hub“ for all process systems. ACOS NMS fulfils a wide range of tasks, including the following:

  • Recording and management of all planned and unplanned activities related to network operation
  • Preparation and management of standard orders
  • Preparation of switching records
  • Support of the "planner" in the assignment of tasks to service groups
  • Clear and user-friendly presentation of task lists
  • Provision of data for fault and reliability statistics
Numerous Benefits

The ACOS NMS network management system has considerably reduced the number of process interfaces. Also, network operation processes have become more predictable and can be executed much more speedily. Thin Clients have improved system operability and flexibility, and its web orientation has reduced service and maintenance costs.

The ACOS NMS modules installed at ZEV are described in greater detail in our project flyer which is available for download on this site.
