Dear Sir or Madam,
today’s special issue of our newsletter deals exclusively with the following subject:
IDS RTUs with SEAB 1F or TG809 Protocol
Enjoy reading!
The editorial team.
IDS is currently examining the possibility of integrating the communication protocols SEAB 1F (Slave) and TG809 (Slave) as standard applications into IDS RTUs (IDS 850/650/640) and ACOS 750.
Today, it is possible to supply IDS telecontrol centres with suitable Master communication lines. The integration of these protocols into IDS RTUs is scheduled for the 2nd quarter of 2009 and opens up interesting possibilities for the successive replacement of existing RTUs.
This approach enables the exchange of individual RTUs and the expansion of existing communication lines, respectively, while, at the same time, facilitating the simultaneous operation of existing telecontrol centres and control systems.
It is thus possible to modernise and upgrade telecontrol systems according to the current situation, i.e. depending on on the currently available staff and the financial means.
Following the replacement of all RTUs on a complete telecontrol with new IDS RTUs, an IEC telecontrol headstation can be installed. The installed IDS RTUs can then easily switch from the communication protocols SEAB 1F and TG809 to the communication protocol IEC 60870-5-101/-104.
This investment into new telecontrol equipment is safe because the aforementioned conversion can be implemented without incurring additional hardware costs fort he RTUs. After changeover to the 60870-5-101/-104 protocol, all the functionalities of the IDS RTUs – including multi-path communication, dial-up connection, remote parameterisation, various third-party protocols etc. – will naturally be available.
The ultimate decision concerning the development of this concept depends on whether and to which extent this approach finds the customers’ acceptance. Seen from this angle, we are currently examining the demand for this solution on the market.
