In-House Exhibition in Ettlingen – A Complete Success
We were delighted to welcome more than 150 guests to our in-house exhibition in May. For our exhibition program, we got lots of praise and positive feedback from our guests. At this point, we particularly wish to thank our guest speakers for their contributions:
- Mr Jörn Fischer, Consulectra GmbH
- Mr Dr. Günter Wagner, Liwacom GmbH
- Mr Markus Wittmann, A. Eberle GmbH & Co. KG
- Mr Uwe Göpel, Zwickauer Energieversorgung GmbH
- Mr Jan-Thomas Walther, DB Energie GmbH
- Mr Peter Krapp, ZVEI e.V.
- Mr Dirk Detmer, SoftProject GmbH
- Mr Christoph Bilger, ENRW GmbH & Co. KG
We would also like to thank our proprietor, Dr Ralph Neukirchen, for his introductory speech.
The wide range of novelties presented at the exhibition, discussions between customers and potential buyers and a lively exchange of information between the guests and our IDS experts have shown that – true to our motto – IDS is indeed “Fit for the Future”. Especially the new ACOS 750 telecontrol system was hailed by our guests as a breakthrough.
Given the hot summer temperatures, an excursion to the vineyards of the Affentaler Vintners’ Association was a welcome relief and provided ample opportunities for further in-depth technical discussions.
Finally, we wish to congratulate the lucky winner who has won a hotel voucher for a stay in Heidelberg in our tombola:
Mr Erich Bordt, Energieversorgung Hildesheim
ACOS 750 Telecontrol and Automation System
With ACOS 750, IDS has expanded ist product portfolio by a complete automation and telecontrol device with an adaptable I/O periphery consisting of intelligent compact terminals which can be distributed (decentralisation) when necessary.
Communication between the CPU and the I/O terminals takes place via the Ethernet-based EtherCAT protocol. The use of standard CAT5 cables and a maximum distance of 100 m between the terminals enable the cost-effective implementation even of large-scale decentralised peripheries.
In its standard version, the CPU module is equipped with an LCD display and has an RS232 interface for parameterisation and service. Parameterisation takes place by means of the graphic engineering tool ACOS ET. The parameterisations and archived values can be saved on an optional memory card.
The CPU module has three serial RS232 interfaces for communication according to IEC 60870-5-101/-103 and Modbus RTU Master, as well as (in its standard version) an integrated 4-port Ethernet switch for communication via IEC 60870-104 Client/Server and Modbus TCP Client.
An additional communication module enables the operation of ACOS 750 as Profibus DP Master in Profibus networks.

FAT at Erdgas Ostschweiz (CH)
Erdgas Ostschweiz AG supplies the region between Brugg/CH and Lake Constance with natural gas. In May 2008, Erdgas Ostschweiz put the seal of approval on the system delivered by IDS through a factory acceptance test.
In this context, it is particularly noteworthy that the FAT took place on site and not on the IDS premises in Ettlingen. The reason for this was that, in the initial stage of construction, the objective was to connect solely third-party equipment via protocols RP 570 or IEC 60870-5-104.
Some of the functions of the HIGH-LEIT NT SCADA system which were specially developed for this project were incorporated in the HIGH-LEIT NT release 4.18. These new functions include, for instance, the direct archiving of meter readings as original data, the addition of a third area of validity for counter values and an upgraded curve calculation function.
Commissioning also included the (redundant) data exchange between HIGH-LEIT and the SIMONE package for the simulation of gas quality by Liwacom Essen. As a next step, commissioning works will be continued in cooperation with chestonag automation ag (CH).

Discontinuation of Analogue Standard Point-to-Point Connections
In May 2008, it was decided that the product “analogue standard point-to-point connections” by Deutsche Telekom’s subsidiary T-systems is to be discontinued as of 30 September, 2008. Following a limited period of transition, the product will be definitely shut down on September 30, 2008. Against this background, all Telekom customers should take care that the safe operation of their installation is insured.
Due to the wide range of possible standby strategies, it is important first to work out a detailed description of the user’s technical and economic requirements which should then be reflected by the system’s properties. As service providers, we are happy to advise and assist you in the development of customised migration concept, specially adapted to your needs.
